Happy New Year – 2010

Now, the technological age has begun. In the past few years technology has taken a major leap.

Nowerdays a lots of home improvement gadgets have made life simpler and easier. Such as the Automatic washing machine, dishwasher, vacuum cleaner, LCD TV, Plasma, High defination HD TV, laptops, netbooks, digital camera, microwave ovens and of course refrigerator.  Laptops and computers are no longer a geek thing only. Internet, games and other applications have made them a must have.

Each of us have some beautiful memories of life which everyone wants to preserve. Digital camera is a must have to instantly capture the beautiful moments.Microwave ovens are a great time saver in satisfying our taste buds. Just set the time and meal will be ready exactly by that time. To preserve food, apart from microwaves, refrigerators are a must have. There are other must have gadgets in the market like remote controlled wireless keys locator that finds your keys with press of a button and a clear alarm from your key fob wil ring. Robotic vacuum cleaner and robotic floor washer can clean upto 850 square feets on a single battery charge. Nowerdays, there are smart furnitures, space savers, voice activated digital daily use gadgets like voice activated digital alarm clock and photo frames, wireless devices, high tech laser tools and so on, the list goes on.

Technology keeps improving with time. Technicians have developed robots that can help us in many of our day to day tasks. Recently, scientists have built a robot that can run on vertical walls or surfaces and also on the cieling at a rate of six centimetres a second. There were first simple mobiles that we can talk with or send sms. Then came multimedia mobiles with the features to play music, games, capture pictures, bluetooth etc. Then, came the smart phones and finally, the touchphones. And, iphone is the best technological marvel. It is fast, launches applications, games, internet, videos etc. quickly. Its a very powerful touch sensitivity mobile computer with added voice control features. It a revolutionary mobile phone, a widescreen ipod, and a breakthrough internet device. The iphone may drive many of the existing smart phones and touch phones to extinction.Ibm-PC drove many other computer design architectures into extinction in just a few years after its release on August 12, 1981. All other earlier systems were not only expensive but also expensive to use. At that time the new IBM-PC was able to run important software packages of that time such as the spreadsheet program, lotus 1-2-3, Microsoft flight simulator and other by directly accessing the IBM-PC’s hardware bypassing the BIOS. In a short time, it was an object of desire of that time just like the iphone is today.

Some of the latest technology are mentioned below.
Philips have developed a LED bulb that uses 1/6 electricity as compared to an incandescand bulb and lasts 25 times more than it. The smart thermostat is a little device with a screen with audio capabilities, which, using wireless technology, let you know how much electricity or gas your household gadgets are using and how muc its costing you. It can also turn appliances on and off.

Other examples are controller free gaming that allows a gamer to play games with just his physical actions. No mouse, no keybord, joystick etc. are required. The solar shingle may replace the regular shingle as it comes with added benefit of producing electricity for your home. Apart from the above an electric eye, yikebike, vertical farming (an architectural wonder), bladeless fan, the electric car (NISSAN), universal unicycle, wooden bones, X-ray Vision, foldable speakers, Speech to text and text to speech or speech recognition softwares which can type whatever wesay on a computer mic, 3D photo capturing camera, supersuit and many more. The reaseach never ends and the technology keeps progressing. So, the human life keeps becoming more simpler and better.

The revolution of the Compact Disk

The compact disk, commonly known as CD, is an optical disk used to store digital data. It was originally invented to only hold audio but later on it can store video, software, text, and graphics. The compact disk contains transparent coating, which allows information to be received from a laser beam. Not only can a compact disk provide information but it can take in information as well. Compact disk is able to store large amounts of data by compressing it together.

Compact disk comes in different sizes and formats.

One such format is the compact disk read only memory commonly known as CD ROMs. It is about twelve centimeters in diameter. CD ROMs have data that can be accessed yet data cannot be erased on a CD ROM and additional data cannot be added. Many things can be stored on a CD ROM like audio or video. It can contain as much as 900 megabytes of information that is an equivalent to 99 minutes of audio or video.

Next is Digital Video Disk or DVD for short. DVDs can contain 4.7 gigabytes on a single layer on one side of the optical disk. It has many uses like for storing video. It can play videos when inserted to a DVD player. There are also DVDs that can record video on its disk known as DVD-R. It can record video only once. After recording a video the first time data cannot be erased or changed. With DVD-RW it can be record videos and be rewritten.
Then there is the Universal Media Disk or the UMD. It is about 6 centimeters in diameter. It is different from other optical disk in that it has a protective shutter. Its data can contain movies, music, games, and even TV shows. Its design is to be played on a PlayStation Portable, which is a handheld video game system. It is a read only disk in which it data cannot be erased or rewritten. It can store 900 megabytes on a single layer or 1.8 gigabytes on dual layers. It uses a MPEG4 AVC codec to play videos.

Finally there is Blu-ray. It is an optical disk that can hold more information then the standard DVD. The disk is the same size as standard DVDs and CD-ROMs. Blu-ray uses a shorter wavelength, which explains why it is able to hold more information then a standard DVD. It is able to play high-definition video. Blu-ray gets its name from using a blue-violent laser then a red laser commonly used on DVDs. As time went by there has been success in adding more memory in Blu-ray thus allowing more information to be stored on the optical disk.

The benefits of owing a compact disk is that it takes up less space then the video home system tapes. Compact disk offers better quality as oppose to other media such as videotapes. Unlike videotapes where the quality gets lower every time the videotape is played CD’s quality remains the same regardless how many times it has been played. CDs are also cheaper to produce then ROM cartridges. Even though CD ROMs have a longer load time compared to ROM cartridges it can still hold more data. CDs are easy to use as well. All you have to do is put it in an appropriate media player and the media will usually automatically play depending on what kind of format it is.

Multi-tasking with the iPhone 3G

Multi-tasking with the iPhone 3G

iphone-3gTechnology is now becoming an increasingly important part of human life. Not only does it provide important uses for our infrastructure, but technologies such as the mobile phone, are also becoming important devices for socializing. With the advent of the iPhone in 2007, the purpose and capabilities of basic mobile phones have now increased dramatically. The iPhone, produced by Apple, was one of the first mobile phones that provided consumers with a phone that could handle a variety of everyday tasks in one device.

Previous to the iPhone, most mobile phones were designed with the main purpose of suiting the network carrier. They were often quite simple in there design and there price would reflect the lack of features it incorporated. However, ever since the production of the iPhone, this has changed significantly. Now the majority of mobile phones are produced with the customer in mind, and are being specifically produced to aid the consumer rather than the network carrier. While this means handsets are becoming more expensive, mobile phones like the iPhone have many benefits.

The most recent release of the iPhone, the iPhone 3G, has three main features including a stylish mobile phone, widescreen iPod, and one of the best Wireless-WiFi internet connections available on a mobile phone. With its revolutionary touch-screen technology, the iPhone 3G is able to make calls as quick as a tap. It’s compatibility with most PC’s, including the Mac, also allows you to download contacts quickly and easily. The accessibility of the iPhone G3 also makes it simpler to listen to voicemail messages than ever before.

Because the iPhone 3G is able to function as an iPod and a fast 3G internet browser, this mobile phone has many advantages over traditional mobile phones. The fact that the iPhone 3G is able to download numerous applications from the Apple App Store also makes this one of the most adaptable phones on the market. The best thing about the iPhone applications are, that there are many useful Apps available for download that are absolutely free. The Weather Channel and Urbanspoon Apps are prime examples, and allow you to keep up-to-date with the most recent weather forecasts and find local places to eat which match your budget.

As well as providing useful everyday applications, the iPhone 3G can also be a useful tool for doctors. The Epocrates App is a perfect example of how the iPhone 3G might provide a useful tool for medical professionals. Epocrates provides iPhone users with a huge medical database. Providing extensive details on drugs, dosing, and prices, it is an extremely useful application for all medical staff and students. Of course, there is plenty more medical reference Apps being made available everyday on the iPhone 3G.

Rather than just being a device which can provide useful everyday benefits such as weather forecasts, the iPhone 3G is now providing many practical applications for countless professionals which have huge potential for the medical field. Thanks to the iPhone 3G’s powerful ARM processor, and huge capacity of up to 16GB memory, they are the perfect device for countless tasks. Therefore, it is no wonder that the iPhone 3G is one of the World’s most popular multi-task mobile phones.

Mr. Gregory has a very important question…

“It’s 10:00 p.m… Do you know where your children are?”

Thomas Gregory was, among other things, a news anchor. In the mid-1960’s, he coined that famous phrase at the beginning of his newscast and, although he passed away in 2006, it still opens every newscast today. At the time when Mr. Gregory first proposed that question, it was likely that the answer from many parents would have simply been “No.” Lifestyles were different then. Things seemed simpler, at least in retrospect. When children wanted to see their friends, they walked to their home or rode their bicycles or met in an agreed-upon location like a park or favorite corner store. Parents knew their children’s friends and, more often than not, they also knew the friends’ parents and siblings. Human nature dictates that children still tried to circumvent curfews and rules but the climate in regards to their safety was less worrisome.

Today, stories of abductions, pedophilia and other crimes against children appear regularly in the media. Sadly, this fosters panic among parents and results in a need for almost constant contact. Parents experience emotional turmoil over such “firsts” as letting their child ride their bike all the way around the block alone for the time or giving permission to walk to a friend’s house unaccompanied. Compound this as those same children age and attend school farther from home or the immediate community or simply acquire a driver’s license. Freedom for young people unfortunately creates a great deal of fear for their parents.

To this end, today’s families may look to technology to assuage some of their worries and insecurities in regards to the safety of their children. It may start with a “nanny cam” to keep a watchful eye on early child care providers. It progresses to a child’s first cell phone – some with just big, kid-friendly buttons pre-programmed to call Mom, Dad or 9-1-1. Then, as those children grow and become independently mobile, a new technology emerges – GPS tracking.

Parents of young children may find security in a locator system such as that offered by ionKids. This system consists of a handheld “base” for the parent and wrist bracelets to be worn by the children. The base can monitor up to four wrist bracelets simultaneously. Each bracelet is on a different frequency and there is no use of cellular signal so the system is intended to work well indoors (such as at the grocery store or the mall) with no lapse in service. The bracelets are designed to be tamper-resistant and require a key to operate the locking mechanism. They also set off a beeping signal when the child moves out of range of the base (purported to be up to 350 feet indoors and up to 200 feet outdoors). Such technology can go far to alleviate the panic that ensues when a child moves out of view in a public setting.

Another heralded option is the Amber Alert GPS. This system requires that the parent has a web-enabled cell phone. The GPS unit can be placed in a younger child’s backpack or attached to a wrist or ankle. With older children and teens, it can be carried in a purse, pocket or even in the car. The parent calls or text messages the GPS unit and, within a few short seconds, receives a text message back with its exact location. The address and map can then be viewed either on the phone or on a computer. Of further comfort to parents will be the SOS button on the GPS unit. If the child is in a dangerous situation or has any kind of emergency, they simply press and hold the button. Parents pre-program the unit with the coordinates of five trusted individuals and all of them will receive text and email notifications every five minutes until the situation is resolved. With certain subscription plans, the Amber Alert GPS also offers what is known as “bread crumbing.” In this case, the unit will send regular messages to the parent, on a schedule that they determine, keeping them posted on their child’s whereabouts throughout the day or evening – without them having to call or text a request.

While some (particularly older teens fighting to establish their independence and freedom) will balk at GPS tracking, it is a technology that offers parents a large dose of peace of mind – and gives them the confidence to answer Mr. Gregory’s famous question with a resounding and informed “YES, I do!”

Cell phone technology

Almost everyone has a cell phone nowadays. You can do almost anything with cell phone technology. You can play games on your cell phone. You can take photos, and even create a short video with your cell phone. Cell phone technology makes your life easier. If you missed your favorite program on TV, you can watch it from your cell phone. If you go shopping, you can use your cell phone’s calculator to keep up with the prices. Cell phone technology allows you to do almost anything.

Cell phone technology allows you to access the Internet. Using your cell phone’s technology, you can legally download music from the web, and save it to your cell phone, and your cell phone acts as your MP3 player. Because cell phone technology is so advanced, you should know what you want in a cell phone before you purchase one. If you want a cell phone just to keep in touch with people, and you don’t want to do anything other than talk on your phone, you might not need all the sophisticated applications of some cell phones. However, if you are one who wants all the bells and whistles that comes with cell phone technology, every application available is at your fingertips.

Technology has changed over the last 20 or 30 years of mobile phones. Many years ago mobile phones were quite large. Back then only a few people, compared to now, had mobile phones. In those days, before cellular technology, mobile phones were nothing more than radio transmitters and receivers. Each major city had a radio antenna tower that transmitted signals, and if you were too far away from a central tower, your signal could not be picked up by the tower.

Now with cellular technology each city has a series of towers that are called cells. If you are driving around in your car your signal can be picked up by one tower, and then when you start to get out of range from that particular tower, your signal automatically gets picked up by another cell tower. As you leave the vicinity of one tower, that tower switches you to the next tower nearest you.

Cell phone technology has made life easy. It’s almost a necessity to have a cell phone with all the latest applications. Most people have camera phones now. You might not always carry a digital camera with you everywhere you go, but if you have a cell phone with the latest technology, you don’t need a digital camera, because you have a camera phone. The screen where you see your telephone numbers displayed is your viewfinder. Depending on the type of phone you have, you touch a button and you have taken a photograph. You can transmit your photo right away to another phone, or to an email address.

Cell phone technology is getting more advanced every day. For many people, cell phone technology has replaced the personal computer and laptop. With the advent of the computer phone, with all its sophisticated applications, you almost don’t need a big computer anymore.

Technology Today

Technology Today

Technology Today“Don’t leave home without it” is a slogan long attributed to a particular credit card company. These days, however, the same axiom applies to all manner of technology. We are a truly a society laden with gadgets and gizmos. Quickly observe fellow passengers during any commute. You will see iPods and other digital media players, cell phones, PDAs, GPS devices, laptops and netbooks aplenty. We are always connected – if not to other people, then to our favorite books, movies, games and other forms of entertainment.

Students, business people, and homemakers – virtually anyone with a schedule to keep – make use of varying degrees of technology. We even give our children cell phones to ensure not only their safety but our ability to reach them at all times and for all reasons. It seems that everyone seeks to make the most of every hour in their day.

Attend any business meeting or audit a college or university class and, chances are, the room will be awash in laptop computers. In fact, in classes where professors prohibit computer use, there is generally a loud and sustained outcry. Students have come to expect and even demand the option of taking notes directly on their computer. There is no desire to transcribe – or even create – handwritten notes among a generation that has been raised on keyboards large and small.

There is a tool on the market that is both efficient and appealing to the student and business communities. It is a computerized pen or “pen computer.” One of the first on the market was FLY Fusion by LeapFrog. Perceived mainly as an educational toy for the preteen set, the FLY is an electronic pen that includes a voice. Using special dotted paper, the pen employs a scanner and character recognition. The user can draw a calculator on the paper, subsequently tap on the numbers, and the pen computer will perform the mathematical calculations. To access the pen’s menu system, the user simply writes an “M” on the paper, circles it and then taps. The FLY will then “speak” the available options like the calculator or a schedule, notepad, etc. With the addition of FLY’s available applications, it can be used to learn subjects like Algebra, French or Spanish, it offers translation programs or the possibility to improve one’s writing abilities. While designed for the young, adults also find some of its features useful and the chubby pen format very convenient to carry.

Expanding on the idea of the FLY, Livescribe has released its Pulse Smartpen. Also working with dotted paper (which can be printed for free on standard printer paper using the Livescribe Desktop), the Smartpen encompasses powerful audio capabilities. Example – a student can take notes during a lecture and record the lecture (or portions of it) via the Smartpen at the same time. Tapping a particular keyword within the notes will allow the student to listen to what was being said at that moment. The pen’s microphone and noise-cancelling software ensure that the captured audio is clear. A USB connector then allows all notes and audio to be transferred to the student’s computer where it can even be used with other applications, such as OneNote. Obviously, the same premise would apply to a business meeting, conference lectures and more.

This advance in portable technology makes the gathering and sharing of information – text and audio – a convenient reality. While still an emerging tool, developers are hard at work on new applications to further serve those who are already using digital pens and pen computers – and to appeal to those who are eagerly sitting on the sidelines, waiting for the time that they, too, will be able to hold this computing power as easily as any old ballpoint pen.

Android turned into Desktop OS: Let the Wars Begin

Android turned into Desktop OS: Let the Wars Begin

android

Google has been slowly building its influence in the PC technology industry over the years, and now with the use of the Android OS as a desktop OS means they may be well on their way to overtake Microsoft.

Matthaus Krzykowski and Daniel Hartmann who are also the founders of mobile-facts took the Android OS and started using it on an Asus Eee PC 1000H. They were surprised at how little change it took to be able to run Android on the netbook, in fact it only took 4 hours of work to put together everything together. What made this possible is that Android is really just Linux at its heart, so it’s common sense that it shouldn’t be too port over to the desktop.

According to Daniel Hartmann who got the netbook running with Android, they were able to have full functionality including graphics, sound and wireless Internet. They said that they had been expecting Google to use Android for more than just mobile phones for a while now, and this shows where Google might go with it.

So as Microsoft rushes to release Windows 7, Google may be using their Android OS on PCs by the beginning of the summer. It’s finally time for a little change in the PC market.

30GB Zunes Enter Frozen Coma for New Year

30GB Zunes Enter Frozen Coma for New Year

zunefail

Supposedly around midnight P.S.T last night, 30GB Zunes all over the world started to lock up then reboot, freezing at the end of the boot process. It didn’t matter what the Zune was doing, as one user reported his Zune freezing while charging it in his computer.

Microsoft hasn’t issued a comment on the issue yet as the problems started happening early last night, but they are expected to provide an explanation or solution early today. Some theories suggest that the time change with the New Year may have caused the problem, some think it’s a hoax, or maybe even a joke put into the Zune’s software.

The frozen boot doesn’t appear to be affecting Zune’s with firmware prior to the 3.1 release from November.

One member of a Zune forum has suggested that Microsoft provide users with broken Zunes with free Zune Passes which are similar to iTunes Gift Cards. Regardless, this doesn’t help the reputation of the Zune, and hopefully Microsoft can get to the bottom of this strange problem.

The New Generation of USB – USB 3.0 at CES

The New Generation of USB – USB 3.0 at CES

USB 3.0 will supposedly be 10 times faster than the current USB 2.0, and the first ever USB 3.0 drive from Symwave is expected to be shown at CES.

Symwave will be showing off the world’s first USB 3.0 drive at CES next month. The speed of 3.0 far surpasses that of USB 2.0, but not many companies are ready for the upgrade yet. In fact no other USB 3.0 devices have been made public yet, and the transition time for laptop manufacturers may be long after the first USB 3.0 peripheral accessories are released.

Firewire continues to be the connection of choice for high performance graphics and photo editing, but based on the speed of USB 3.0, many professionals may make the switch. Mike Elgan of Computer World predicts that we may be seeing this interface in high end laptops and peripherals by the end of the year.
