Hydo(Water) Fuel – The Fuel of the Future

Hydro power, hydraulic power or water power is the power that is driven from the force of moving water, which may be harnessed for useful purposes. Prior to the widespread availability of commercial electric power, hydropower was used for irrigation and operation of various machines like watermills, textile machines, sawmills, dock cranes, and domestic lifts. Eventhough Researchers had thought that Application of Water can be implemented Far behind the limit by using it as a Fuel on extracting Hydrogen from that, but practically bringing it to the Scanario was an Unpredicatable thing. The Major idea behind that was, implementing the extracted Hydrogen which is believed to be the efficient Fuel in the World in to Transportation. But Researchers always believed that dream
of Hydrogen Vehicles would become possible one or the other day.

A hydrogen vehicle is a vehicle that uses hydrogen as its on-board fuel for motive power. The term may refer to a personal transportation vehicle, such as an automobile, or any other vehicle that such as an aircraft. The power plants of such vehicles convert the chemical energy of hydrogen to mechanical energy in one of two methods such as combustion or electrochemical conversion in a fuel-cell.
In hydrogen internal combustion engine vehicles, the hydrogen is combusted in engines in fundamentally the same method as traditional internal combustion engine vehicles. In fuel-cell conversion, the hydrogen is reacted with oxygen to produce water and electricity, the latter being used to power an electric traction motor. The water splitting requires 1.23 volts, and the current experimental configuration cannot quite achieve that level. So the researchers add around 0.3 volts from an outside source.

Scientists at the Pennsylvania have come forward with an Innovative method of implementing water as Fuel. This uses the principle of splitting the Water compound matter in to Hydrogen, the most efficient Fuel in the world and pure oxygen with the help of solar energy. This Future Technology will rewrite
the History of Engine with one more Mile stone, by which one can imagine having a Water Bunk instead of a Petrol Bunk every where. This is a proof-of-concept system which can be regarded as inefficient, but a catalytic process with 10 to 15 per cent solar conversion efficiency might be achievable. If this is realized and made, water photolysis would provide a clean source of hydrogen fuel from water and sunlight, says Thomas E. Mallouk, the Dupont Professor of Materials Chemistry and Physics.

Mallouk and W. Justin from Arizona State University who are young to their field in chemistry, developed a catalyst system that, combined with a dye, could mimic the electron transfer and water oxidation processes that occur in plants during photosynthesis. Presenting their work at the annual meeting of the American Association for the Advancement of Science in Boston, the researchers said
that the key to their process was a tiny complex of molecules with a centre catalyst of iridium oxide molecules surrounded by orange-red dye molecules. They say that when visible light strikes the dye, the energy excites the electrons in the dye, which can split the water molecule with the help of the catalyst, and create free oxygen. Each surface of iridium atom can cycle through the water
oxidation reaction about 50 times per second, i.e. faster than the next best synthetic catalysts, is comparable to the Photosynthesis process followed by the plants, which would be done manually by the procedure.

This car operates on 100% clean fuel produced by a reversible fuel cell that converts water to hydrogen using energy captured from the sun. This Hydro car kit is conveniently designed to bring the latest research out of the laboratories. The car can negotiate obstacles with its electronic sensors and would be the greatest experience for the Future Generations. This vehicle coming out from the year 2099 is running on clean hydrogen fuel using a next generation reversible Polymer Electrolyte Membrane (PEM) fuel cell. Its new design offers a futuristic feel for what transportation demands for the people’s need and also the concern which gets the oxygen and hydrogen gases in to two transparent containers in the back of the vehicle. The kit’s fuel cell unit combines water electrolysis and fuel cell functions into one device. The car steers independently of the user once it hits a barrier, and cool blue LED lights flash from inside the cockpit.

They have not said if it will be released to the public anytime soon, if ever, but from what it looks like, it seems like the perfect home theater tool.
