USB 3.0 will supposedly be 10 times faster than the current USB 2.0, and the first ever USB 3.0 drive from Symwave is expected to be shown at CES.
Symwave will be showing off the world’s first USB 3.0 drive at CES next month. The speed of 3.0 far surpasses that of USB 2.0, but not many companies are ready for the upgrade yet. In fact no other USB 3.0 devices have been made public yet, and the transition time for laptop manufacturers may be long after the first USB 3.0 peripheral accessories are released.
Firewire continues to be the connection of choice for high performance graphics and photo editing, but based on the speed of USB 3.0, many professionals may make the switch. Mike Elgan of Computer World predicts that we may be seeing this interface in high end laptops and peripherals by the end of the year.
